Bloggers Like Us — The Best Part of Waking Up

The Recap:

Once a month, I post a segment called Bloggers Like Us.  In it, I propose a question, asking for a picture of one of your favorite things, spots, memories, or foods.  Then, if you choose to participate (which I truly hope you will!!!), you will just need to post a picture on your blog to answer the question by a designated time.  (You can even include a short paragraph or sentence as a caption).

And then, when I post the next Bloggers Like Us segment, I include all of your pics, and we’ll get to know even more about each other. After all, a picture is worth a thousand words!

This Month’s Challenge:

This month, bloggers were asked to share pics of what the best part of waking up is for them.  Do they sip on a mug of steaming coffee to get their day started?  Are they smoothie drinkers?  Do they stick to water?

—————————————————————————————————————————

ME!

Not so long ago, my morning routine was to stop at Dunkin Donuts on my way into work.  Now that Nate and I are on a budget and trying to save money, I make myself an iced coffee at home with the Keurig (yes, I’m one of those crazy people who drinks iced coffee even in the middle of winter) and bring it to work in this tropical-looking cup.  My current, favorite blend  is Caramel Vanilla from Green Mountain Coffee! (And, yes, I was pretty much done this morning’s beverage by the time I remembered to take a pic).  😉

Livvy from A Year in the Life — Livvy starts her day healthy by sipping on H2O.  I’m completely in love with her chunky mug with its heart patterns, and I think she put it best when she wrote:  “My morning gets off to a great start drinking water, watching my Morocco sunset photos and catching up on the news. It’s more of a gentle tap into the day rather than a kick start!”

I think we all could learn to slow down a bit and gently tap our way into a new day!  🙂

Paige from Turning a Page — Paige’s typical morning begins with some Green Mountain blueberry coffee (which I have to add is one of my hubby’s favorite coffee choices), Starbucks Blonde Roast, or a cup of peppermint tea from her Keurig machine.  Her mug of choice was a Christmas present from her parents, which has a famous Pride and Prejudice line.  Adorable!!

She wrote, “Lately I’ve been guzzling coffee to keep up with this whirlwind semester, but my favorite way to savor my morning time is to take my time, peruse emails, listen to music, and open up my blinds to let some sunlight in. Hopefully now that I’m away from social networking, I’ll dedicate my time to more peaceful starts to the day. My journal is dusty!”

Ah, beautiful.

Sarah from The Simple Dietitian (a.k.a. my sister) —  Sarah said that her mornings begin with coffee and not just any kind of coffee.  She let us in on a little secret… She’s a coffee snob and only Starbucks will do.  😉

She wrote, “The darker the better.  I like a nice strong cup so that I feel as if 6-8oz. is just enough.  I do add quite a bit of unsweetened soy milk though, because I like the smoothness that it gives.”

*

Amy from A Desert Girl — Like Livvy, Amy starts her day off with H2O, getting a head-start on those 6-8 cups we’re all supposed to drink each day.  Her water-bottle of choice is not only a beautiful, vibrant color; but it also represents one of her favorite soundtracks.  She went to see Wicked with her friend Derek and frousin (friend + cousin) Lori.

She added, “During intermission, Derek bought me this water bottle.  Bright green (my favorite color), it holds my personal clean, clear, and refreshing ‘elixir’.”

Samantha from Samantha Menzies —   Samantha has quite the variety in her choice of healthy, morning beverages… and a variety of colors /containers!  She explained, “Water in the pink water bottle that I’ve been carrying with me everywhere for the last 5 years.  Green smoothie in a green bottle: Soy milk, protein powder, and spinach.  Hot green tea in the thermos Matt bought me for Christmas this year.”

(Has anyone else tried spinach in their smoothies?  I sometimes drink that in the summer for breakfast, and it’s amazing how much energy it gives me!).  Samantha ended with, “Needless to say, I take frequent bathroom breaks throughout the day.”  🙂

I drink a lot

Katy from Our Simple Love Story  Katy said, “Every morning, I have a Twinings English Breakfast tea from the Keurig.  It has just enough caffeine to jump start my day.  I prefer it over coffee, although I love the smell of my husband’s coffee every morning as well.”

The story behind the mug, by the way, is too precious…  She fell in love with this mug the minute she saw it at Anthropologie, but she didn’t have the time to pick it up.  Her husband Michael surprised her by going back, buying her the mug, and then he presented it to her for her birthday (when he served her breakfast in bed)!  I’d say that mug is as special as it is beautiful!

Gina from Just Married — Gina’s beverage of choice is a medium Dunkin’ Donuts hot tea with cream and sugar.  She explained that the photo below was taken on a morning that allowed her to indulge in two favorites — hot tea and her secret crush on Willie Geist from the Today Show. 😉  Paired with super comfy red slippers, well, it’s pretty much the epitome of a perfect morning.

She wrote, “I am not a morning person, and I never will be–much to Mike’s chagrin. So, it makes sense to throw in whatever items help to make it cheerier/less painful. When you’re chasing around a toddler and trying to get out the door less than twenty minutes behind schedule, you need any boost you can get.”

  1. So I told Amy this on her blog when she posted it, but I love her water bottle! It’s pretty much amazing. And I love that you drink iced coffee even in the winter and even more that your cup is so tropical! It makes me smile just to look at it. 🙂
