Ode to Peanut Butter — A Foodie Review

My sister Sarah and I have been flirting with the possibility of visiting New York City this year.  We’re still in the planning stages; but it’s looking as though, if we plan it just right, we’ll get to see this amazing city without breaking the bank.  The funny thing is that during our various discussions and exciting moments of planning, we have only come up with one site that we ultimately, absolutely, positively have to see.

It’s not the Statue of Liberty.  Or the Empire State Building.  Or even to see a broadway play.

We just want to go here…

The Peanut Butter & Co Sandwich shop.

Peanut butter is kind of a big deal in my family.  I still remember my dad’s amazing peanut butter sandwiches, loaded with as much peanut butter as he could possibly fit between two slices of bread.  To this day, I enjoy a peanut butter sandwich with a glass of milk at least once a week.  (Sometimes, three or four times…).  😉   And I also enjoy the ‘ooey-gooey, peanutty’ goodness in smoothies, on top of fruit, in between crackers, and — thanks to the suggestion of my sister — in hot oatmeal.

What can I say?  It’s delicious, healthy, keeps me feeling satisfied, and gives me a burst of energy!

I was ecstatic when I first heard of Peanut Butter Co. because not only do they offer a variety of flavors, but they also produce peanut butter that is all-natural.  (No hydrogenated oil, trans fat, or high-fructose corn syrup , like the peanut butter I used to eat).  But the flavors are still delicious.  (And it doesn’t hurt that there’s an adorable monkey on the packaging too.  Everyone knows that peanut butter just tastes that much better when it comes from a cute jar).

Recently, I received two jars of peanut butter from Adam over at the Peanut Butter Co. to sample; and I was thrilled, since I’ve always stuck to Bee’s Knees (a honey peanut butter) and Smooth Operator.  (Apparently, they have ten flavors to choose from now, so I think I need to expand my peanut butter horizons just a little!).

Anyway, I received a jar of Dark Chocolate Dreams and Cinnamon Raisin Swirl!

Cinnamon Raisin Swirl has the perfect combination of peanut butter, cinnamon, and raisins; so that one flavor isn’t over-powering the next.  With each bite, you can taste all three flavors, and there are even actual raisin chunks!

This is a sweet peanut butter with a crunch, so I wasn’t a huge fan of eating it in a sandwich… or even just straight out of the jar.  I did find it to be delicious when eaten with apple slices or when stirred into oatmeal.  (I cooked the oatmeal with apple chunks and then stirred in a bit of the peanut butter, and — wow — it was definitely a winning combination).

As for the Dark Chocolate Dreams, well, you had me at chocolate.

This creamy jar of peanut butter was absolutely heaven.  Loved, loved, LOVED it!  Honestly, is there a better flavor combination than chocolate and peanut butter?

I ate it right out of the jar several times, when I came home from work and found myself craving something sweet.  Just a tablespoon kept me from snacking on junkfood while I made dinner.  It was also delicious on grahm crackers, whole wheat toast; and I even ate it for dessert one time, topping a banana with the peanut butter and coconut.

So, yes, as I’m sure you can tell, I’m definitely a fan; and I think it’s probably my new, favorite peanut butter flavor.  (Well, probably that and the Bee’s Knees, since I am a huge fan of honey peanut butter too).  😉

Have you tried Peanut Butter and Co. peanut butter?  If so, which is your favorite flavor?

  1. I have never heard of falvoured peanut butters and I’m now off to mix Nutella and peanut butter to see how it works out! And now it looks as if I’m going to have to bring some home from my next trip Stateside, as well as bringing home peanut butter M&Ms of course 🙂

  2. chocolate and peanut butter sounds delish! we don`t have a big choice when it comes to peanutbutter in Norway, so no I haven`t tasted it, but if I ever find it or a similar taste-combo I`ll definetely try it!
